“Some Skies Can’t Tell”. Deep. But true nonetheless – some skies can and well some skies just cant…..

That is deep, Brid. In fact, I think I might have to go and lie down now

In chick-lit? They can lose anything they like. As long as it’s in some unintentionally hilarious and heart-rending way, obviously:)

The trick with these titles is that when you say them out loud a few times, they seem to make sense, until you think about it again, and you realise they make no sense at all. It’s a beautiful process.

    So Hearts might Lose…???

I think this is my latent gambling mania (overlaid with a morbid phobia for card games) breaking out more than a novel title 😛

Although perhaps I could do an expose of the life of a Vegas showgirl and her incandescent affair with an Elvis impersonator – now I have to go for a lie down as well! lol

Mine is ‘And Skies Can’t Win’….deeeep… Is my heroine battling the gods, fate or destiny, do you think? And they can’t win, they just can’t!!! Three exclamations marks – that’s how important it is. And skies can’t win! Yes, I’m feeling it now….. one girl and her designer umbrella against the world! Watch out, Cecelia Ahern – I’m on a roll (er, was that thunder???)

‘How They Could Tell’ made me think – guiltily – more about me: that I’m a slut because my house is knee deep in dust. So then I had to play around with different combos – nickname / maiden name, which resulted in ‘How Lips Could Speak’ … hmm…

    • January 24, 2014 at 10:19 am

Chick-lit shouldn’t make you feel guilty. It’s rather supposed to make you feel superior to the irredeemable mess of characters on the page! I vote for your nick/maiden names 😉

I know it shouldn’t and to an extent doesn’t for the very reason you’ve stated. My ‘heroine’ is the most pathetic, irritating person I’m glad I’ve never met, after all. No, those feelings of guilt are reserved for displacement activity, like cruising round recommended blogs…

Well then – I might be biased, but I can’t help thinking your guilt is misplaced, because surely such blog cruising activity should be filed under ‘major achievements to the extent that I should down all tools and pour myself a large glass of wine immediately’!

That’s very deep, Madge. You might have your hands full teaching your kids that kisses cannot steal even before you sit down to write. But the book will be all the richer for it 😉

How Yesterday Should Lie. I like it. Sounds a bit deep and meaningful for Chick Lit, but I’m sure we can work something out.
Maybe something about looking back too much and failing to see the lovely hunky future right in front of you. With some shopping or something else frivolous thrown in. And shoes. Gotta have shoes for Chick Lit, right?

    Like

    • May 6, 2014 at 10:34 am

Yes, you absolutely gotta have shoes. The only thing is, you can get away with merely having them on the cover, rather than part of the story themselves, so you could throw a further, even more deep and meaninful chick-lit curve ball by basing your main character’s weakness around something like… Handbags. The lovely hunky future could be holding one, for instance. 🙂

Nobody’s ever late to this party – it’s the generator that keeps on giving! I think in the universal rules of emotion-driven writing, only songs can have subtitles (in brackets) – but it’s time someone broke the mould. And with a title like that you have all the ammunition you need 😉
